Most people know George Santayana for his observation that those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. In this case, the forgetting caused intentionally by the Left who want to separate Americans from their political principles in order to crush their liberties and enslave them to socialism.
A Rasmussen poll from April 9, 2009, revealed that only 53% of Americans believed that capitalism was better than socialism. 33% of adults under 30 prefer socialism to capitalism, only 37% prefer capitalism.
I never thought I would see such a poll in America.
There was a time in American history–say, 1992–when this would have been unthinkable. But because the Left owns the public sphere they are able to demonize American political principles while touting socialism. Socialism is portrayed as a kinder, gentler form of capitalism rather than the murderous, freedom crushing political ideology it is.
The under-30 numbers are telling. The evils are socialism are not taught in American public schools so children become adults not knowing why socialism is evil. The Democrats own the public sphere. They control what is taught in public schools, and they want American kids to embrace socialism.
We need a mechanism so that older Americans can teach younger Americans the truth. We need some tool to de-indoctrinate American public school children and teach them the truth about why socialism is an evil ideology and why the freedoms they enjoy as Americans (at least for the time being) are precious , and worth fighting for and preserving.
But because the Right is such a small part of the public sphere, this has little chance of success. Such a knowledge transfer is only done on a one-to-one or familial basis.
The tea parties of April 15th are an excellent idea and one place to start. But they have to be sustained, regular events. Not one-offs or even annual events. Translating that frustration into political action is necessary. And the Right does not yet have a solution to accomplish this.
Meanwhile, creeping socialism ensures that each year the Left grows stronger and the Right weaker.
