Obama and the Intelligence Community

The Obama administration’s war against the intelligence community continues.

By threatening legal action against members engaged in enhanced interrogation techniques, the administration runs great risks, for little benefit.  The effectiveness of the tactics is not in doubt:  They have scored big in the interrogation 9/11 mastermind KSM.  The administration is determined to return the CIA to the bad old days of the Clinton years, when John Deutch emasculated the clandestine service, leading the intelligence failure of 9/11, and many, less dramatic, shortcomings.

The fact that members might have to undergo a legal defense will certainly be in the back of their minds in the future.  A second danger is the risk of compromising sources and methods.  A legal battle will certainly result in their compromise for the benefit of al Qaeda and the enemies of the United States.  Third, the Obama administration’s actions make the United States look weak in the eyes of other powers and al Qaeda itself. Fourth, the action reeks of paritisanship, an effort to satisfy the Leftist base of the Democratic party while sacrificing American security.  Fifth, Obama’s actions will make it more difficult for neutral and allied intelligence services to cooperate with the U.S. intelligence community since they will know their participation, however small, will come to light during this witch hunt.

Once again, the Obama administration picks advancing a Leftist agenda over American security.  The Obama administration’s war against America continues.
