Today marks the 70th anniversary of the start of World War II with the German invasion of Poland, after the Nazi-Soviet Pact of August 1939 made it possible. World War II killed over 50 million people worldwide and led to the Holocaust as well as countless other tragedies.
The lesson that weakness breeds aggression is as viable today as 70 years ago. Obama’s abandonment of the European site for missile defense is a case in point. It was on the minds of Polish and Czech leaders today, and–no doubt–on the minds of all of those who remember the causes of World War II.
