Happy International Free Press Day: Support Free Speech and the Freedom of the Press

Happy International Free Press Day!

Today marks the 4th anniversary of the publication of the Danish cartoons of Mohammed. It is a poignant occasion for those who love liberty, free speech and a free press (even if it often fails us).

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has an interview with Flemming Rose, the publisher of the cartoons.  It should be read by all, particularly his remarks on Yale University Press’ decision to censor Jytte Klausen’s book about the cartoon controversy.

As Rose understands, our liberties are not a gift, each generation must fight for them.  Today, perhaps the most important struggle is with the agents of militant Islamic fundamentalism in conjunction with the multiculturalists in Western societies.

They seek to suppress liberty.  We need to advance it in the face of their attack.  Always.
