Detroit automakers would face strict oversight from a federal official and have to drop lawsuits against California’s limits on greenhouse gases from cars and trucks under a draft of the rescue obtained by the Free Press.

The final amount of the loans available under the plan was one of the issues still unresolved, with some lawmakers wanting more than the $15 billion that appeared available. General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC have said they need $8 billion before the end of the year to avoid collapse, and GM has said it could need $6 billion early next year.

Under the bill, automakers would have to submit a restructuring plan by March 31 to what’s being called a “financial viability advisor,” who would have the power to set negotiations among the company, unions and creditors. If the advisor deems the company isn’t making progress, the loans could be called back.

Catch the rest of the article here. What a crock! Now the government wants to run the auto industry!? Give me a break. The U.S. government cannot do anything right. Now we are going to have the U.S. government with an 80% stake in U.S. banks and 100% stake in domestic auto production. Reeks of COMMUNISM! Socialism is too weak of a concept for how this is currently playing out.

Maybe you have read my numerous posts on bailing out the auto industry, or maybe you have not. Educate yourself here , here, and here. Today it appears that a bill will be brought before Congress that will get $17 billion to the auto industry in a effort to keept it afloat until Barrack Obama’s administration can nationalize it! Furthermore this $17 billion will not come from the TARP program but from the $25 billion already promised to the industry by the CAFE legislation. Here is the kicker: The Dems in the U.S. Government will take credit for drafting an aid package when all they have really done is accelerate the money that is already owed to the Big 3. They will also call for the heads of all the executives and propose massive company reorganizations. Think about that.

A SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT!!!! I have already ranted about Government bailouts here! NOW WE HAVE MORE of the same! The Big 3 are pushing Congress for another $25 billion on top of the $25 billion for retooling to produce more efficient vehicles. News flash. This is all a farce!!! GM claims they won’t have enough money to operate beyond February ’09 (give or take) while Ford says they have enough money to operate well into ’09. Who knows where Chrysler stands. What we do know is that the Big 3 are pushing Congress to act now “or else.” What does this mean? Scare tactics on behalf of the auto industry? GM already burned through a little over $6 billion in 3 months while posting a $2.5 billion loss. Who knows what the clowns at the helm of GM are doing right now. The auto industry has been losing money since 2006 and somehow they couldn’t read the writing on the wall. In the CAFE legislation, Congress provided the framework for $25 billion in loans to the auto industry to retool their factories to produce smaller more efficient vehicles. Well… IT’S A LITTLE TOO LATE NOW! Another $25 billion to produce excess crap and support a pathetic business model is a serious waste of money. And this is how socialism destroys an economy. Government ownership/interference in the public sector = FAIL!
