Bigger government is not the solution. Whatever you call his tax plan and that redistribution of wealth it will destroy jobs. It will hurt our economy.” Dems = Great Big Government, Repubs = Slightly smaller than what dems want. You decide.

Palin won the debate for three reasons: first, she did not lose it, she never made a major gaffe; second, her forensic manner appeals to Americans with plenty of “you betchas”; and third, Biden was never able to land a knock out blow. Biden’s command of the facts is certainly impressive, but it was Palin who is victorious.

But is not all good news for McCain.

The Old Media will continue to try to embarrass her before November 4th. Two other pieces of bad news. There are reports that McCain is conceding Michigan. Obviously, that is not good if true due to its importance and influence on other Great Lake States. Second, a new Rasmussen report by Rhodes Cook: The Democrats are winning the registration wars. According to the report, Democrats have registered 1.3 million additional voters (since President Bush’s reelection in 2004) while the Republicans have lost almost 800,000. Bad news for the Republicans in 2008 as well as in the long term.

And one wonders how many are felons. Democrats are not shy about winning the prison vote. Today’s Washington Times reports Democratic Governor Tim Kaine has restored voting rights in unprecedented numbers to felons who have served their time–about 1,500 felons are now eligible to vote in Virginia. A process that usually takes six months has been reduced to two month, just in time for the November election.

Bob Dole once asked, after another Democratic scandal: Where is the outrage?! We might add: Where are the Old Media?! Where are the Republicans?!

The debate is important for both campaigns, but is more so for McCain’s. Tonight is the most important night of Sarah Palin’s career. If she crashes, the gamble McCain took will be seen to be a gigantic mistake. If she does well, the Old Media spin will include this theme: “that is the least we should expect. Oh, and Biden won.” Biden’s performance is less critical of course, but he faces the opposite dangers. If he does well, that is what should be expected. If there is a(nother) major gaffe, the same questions will be raised of Obama: “Why did you put him on the ticket.”

Can’t wait for the debate tonight.

AverageJoe is absolutely right–when will the Old Media grill Obama the way they do Palin? The answer is never. ABC News’ Charlie Gibson’s performance in his interview with Palin this week was despicable. More and more Americans realize the Old Media cannot be trusted to be professional, to be the hard-nosed journalists they should be in a presidential election to aid the American people in their decision come November. Americans realize they are partisan actors. They favor Democrats over Republicans. In their professional roles, they act as an arm of the Democratic Party–grilling Republicans while giving Democrats a pass. Thankfully, their power is in decline. It could not end soon enough to help the American people. New media have their problems, but they are far more honest and critical than many in the Old Media.
